Location:  Based in Bend; travel throughout Central Oregon
Stipend/Hours:  $15 an hour
Variable Hours:  Not to exceed an average of between 10 and 15 hours/week
Start Date:  When available
Minimum Commitment:  One year


The Organization
.
Central Oregon Jobs with Justice (CO JwJ) is a three-year-old, labor-community coalition dedicated to fighting for the rights of working people. We work in partnership with central labor councils, local unions and community organizations in mobilizing direct actions for secure living-wage jobs, health care, and workplace and civil rights for all. Central Oregon JwJ has over 250 "I'll be there" pledge card signers and 21 affiliated organizations.  We have currently received a grant to expand our work toward immigrant worker rights.

Central Oregon JwJ has an elected Executive Board which oversees the direction of the coalition; approves an annual budget; creates committees; and contracts with the Latino/a Community  Outreach Coordinator and the Organizer. JwJ’s annual budget is raised largely through grant-making foundations, with contributions by individuals, local unions and community organizations.  Representatives from the Board meet with the Outreach Coordinator on a regular basis, including every three months to review the coordinator’s work performance.

Responsibilities
.
Organizing:  Represents Central Oregon Jobs with Justice in outreach efforts to Latino/a individuals and organizations in the Central Oregon area with the goal of building a strong organization to advocate for economic and social justice for the local Latino/a communities.  Coordinates media outreach and public relations for related events and actions.
Internal Organizing and Mobilization:  Motivates CO JwJ members to assist in actions, mobilizations, and activities designed to build strong relationships between local Latino/a organizations and CO JwJ.
Coalition Building:  Makes contact with, discusses common ground, and develops activities with Latino/a organizations.  When appropriate, encourages Latino/a organizations to affiliate with CO JwJ.
Fundraising:  Directs and writes grants – the primary source of CO JwJ funding – to raise funds to continue work with Central Oregon Latinos/as.  Works with the Board and organizer on an annual fundraising plan.
Administration:  Keeps written records of work and prepares a monthly written report to be submitted to the Board before/at its monthly meeting.  Keeps records of all money spent as part of CO JwJ duties and submits a monthly expense report to the treasurer.

Qualifications
.
Solid, proven commitment to the principles of social and economic justice.
Excellent communications skills, both oral and written, in English and Spanish.  Ability to produce bi-lingual leaflets, flyers, press releases, etc.  Ability to speak publicly (to individuals, small groups, and large groups) in English and Spanish.
A strong ability to motivate people, coordinate volunteer activity, delegate responsibility.  Ability to facilitate meetings with people who do not know one another.
Ability to work independently; initiate, direct, and track several projects at the same time; to meet deadlines; to keep Board abreast of project development.
Ability to develop and maintain relationships with a wide range of organizations and people at the local, state, and national levels.
An understanding of the labor movement and the economic and social justice issues being faced by immigrant workers and youth.
Minimum one year’s grassroots organizing experience in a multi-cultural environment preferred.
Proficient in computer skills, including database management, word processing, desktop publishing, and e-mail.
Has reliable transportation available for work, current Oregon driver’s license, and auto insurance.
One year minimum commitment to the job desired.
Fundraising experience and understanding of local issues and organizations are pluses.
